I seriously have the worst luck in the world.

So, I have had my struggles with Ich, and just got finished having my DT 12 weeks fallow. Having learned my lesson with crappy fish suppliers, among other things, I placed an order for my newly empty QT from DD. In that order was a trio of scissortail dart fish. I added them, plus the other 2 fish from DD to my 35 gal QT. The dartfish all ran for cover immediately after placing them in the tank, but I saw 2 of them come out last night start coming out a little bit. I get home from work today, and the 3rd dartfish is lying on the floor of the tank gasping, and his skin all over his back half is peeling.

I got him out of the tank asap (he's in a seperate container of water, but I don't know what I'm going to do with him), but I just feel defeated. I am thinking that it is probably brook? I have nothing on hand tonight to treat him, or the other fish. Not to mention...I really don't want to. I went through DD to have the healthiest fish possible. Some flukes, a little ich...sure, I could deal with that. But brook? I just want to cry. How soon would the other fish show signs if it was brook?

And also on that note, what does LA usually need for their guarantee fulfillment? I couldn't find specific details. Should I save the fish if he dies? Or will pictures suffice? I have already sent them an email as well, but I figured someone here might know too.

sorry i can't help with the fish problem but all LA needs is a phone call from you. call them as soon as the fish dies (hopefully, it won't). they will offer a credit or a replacement fish, your choice.

Do you have any Quick Cure on hand? If not a FW dip can buy you a day or two till you can get some. Can you post a pic?

No QuickCure up in here. I did a quick FW dip, and put him in a much smaller QT I was planning on breaking down and cleaning this weekend with a capful of paraguard. He's hiding in a corner of it where I can't get a good pic right now. But his skin is definitely peeling from his dorsal fin to his pectoral fin. I can't find a good picture online that's comparable to it, but I would have to say it looks a lot like what a blue spot jawfish looks like when it has 'blue spot jawfish disease'. Same sore of peeling, with almost sores (not quite though).

If he has any kind if an open sore you don't want to use anything with formalin. I'm sure you read the stickies on brook at the top if the forum. There are a couple of other treatment options you can try other then formalin.

Thank you for your help. He did die during the night though I just hope the other 4 fish continue to look/act healthy. They are all still doing great (eating voraciously, exhibiting normal active behavior) as of this morning.

Sorry for your loss...

I soon learned that having a fully stocked pharmacy before I place a fish order is a necessity. You should always have something for Ich, Brook, or Marine Velvet (Cupramine or Chloroquine). Also, an antibiotic or two as well as something for flukes (Prazipro). These are the basics of my pharmacy before I get any new fish. I am sure others on here can give you some additional recommendations on what meds to always have on hand. Again, sorry for your loss...

I soon learned that having a fully stocked pharmacy before I place a fish order is a necessity. You should always have something for Ich, Brook, or Marine Velvet (Cupramine or Chloroquine). Also, an antibiotic or two as well as something for flukes (Prazipro). These are the basics of my pharmacy before I get any new fish. I am sure others on here can give you some additional recommendations on what meds to always have on hand. Again, sorry for your loss...

This is an excellent point. The most important thing about QT is to not pass disease into your display, but a close second is to actually have meds on hand to treat any new fish should it develop anything. I've certainly found myself with my proverbial pants down on more than one occasion, and it's very frustrating.

I definitely will have something on hand in the future to treat brook. Ironically, I have almost every other med on hand except antibioitics/prescription level type stuff. I have Prazi, Cupramine, Paraguard. What else should be in my 'need to have' list?

Paraguard is actually a good remedy for brook.
