I think a powerhead got my Condy...

After a month with a smallish white and blue tip condy, I got up this morning only to find what appeared to be a nickel-sized piece of something on the outside of one of my powerheads. I couldn't really tell what it was but after looking all over my aquarium and not finding my little Condy, I've reached the conclusion that the piece on my powerhead is what was left over. I'm betting it's a foot since it was the only piece with enough matter not to be pulled into the head. Every other time I fed my condy (once a week a small piece of shrimp) it would detach itself from its location, ball up and roll around the bottom as if being well fed didn't give it the strength to hold on while digesting. Historicially, I put it back in its previous location and it would grab on and become its usual self later in the day. Evidently, this time it decided to crawl up the glass or float upwards and and get caught up. None of my fish or corals seem to have been bothered by whatever must have been put into the water but I'm wondering if I should be doing some water changes now.

How in the world can any anemone be safe from powerhead? Is there a good powerhead mod such as screening?

Regards,
Bob

I used a mesh screen that you could buy at any lowes with zips it worked wonders, also sounds kinda crazy put a new pair of panty hose works great as well.

That's probably the best thing to do. I guess keeping the screen clean will be the only concern. Thanks for your suggestion.

I have a nem tank and I was worried about them getting munched by the ph'ds so I put my Mp40 covers on them and it works perfectly.

It sounds like the condy wasn't happy to begin with, that's why it was detaching & moving around; feeding it was just stressing it out more. How long has your tank been cycled & running? what are your water parameters, & lighting? It's suggested to let a new tank mature & wait at least 6 months before adding an anemone.

Condies move around. I wouldn't assume it was moving because it wasn't happy. Mine would stay put for a week or so then wander around for a day or two before settling on a new spot, and he was thriving. Of course that was before my powerhead munched it. :furious:
