That's a "giant kindney worm" or Dioctophyme renale.
Dogs get em by eating infected fish or frogs(that aren't cooked of course).....we can get them too
I'm not sure if they occour in East TN. That case was in Canada. They mainly infect mink.

I'll just say taking the parasitology course can make one pretty paranoid
