I think i'm in trouble?

I have A 55 gallon tank that I want to use as a sump for my other tanks and the only thing is that It was used to house land hermitcrabs for about a year and built the tank like this http://www.blackjungle.com/gallery/talltank/page1.html
I've cleaned almost the whole tank but the only thing i'm worried about is that I don't remember what silicone I used. I can't seem to get all the silicone out of the corners. I'm worried about that if I used this tank that the silicone will leach something bad into the water? Should I just get another tank? If I need to anyone know of where I can get a cheap fuge that will house at least 50G and have about the same footprint as a standard 55G?

I'd check Craigslist for used aquariums... people are always trying to sell old tanks, and you can usually get them for a song. Add a few baffles and you're set.

Just get out as much silicon as you can, then run a bead and smear it with your finger, making sure to cover as much of the old stuff as you can.

I think as long as its clear and waterproof you'll be okay.

man, i know it stinks, but I sure wouldn't risk it. tearing out a bum sump from your setup later on will be a complete PITA if that old silicone does somehow leech crap into your system's water. IMO it's not even a close call whether or not you should get a new sump tank. I'd say that Snowboarda42's idea would probably work, but again, if it didn't, you'll be one hurtin' puppy.

yeah thats what I was going to do anyway. I just didn't want to spend more money then I have to. This tank will be only sps so i'd rather not chance killing off all my coral:( oh well better play safe then sorry
