I think my clownfish is depressed...:-(

Hey all,

I had two tank raised false percs in a 15g FOWLR for about two years. Since they'd been alive, they were always together (they were a year old when I got them from a friend). They've been together for about three years.

Well, a few days ago, the female passed away and the male will not eat and just sits in front of the heater all day. I bought him a new tank mate Thursday. A smaller one so that my existing male will automatically take on the dominate role.

They are okay together, not fighting or anything, the little one is so playful, but my existing male is just so blah. He won't eat or do anything...

Is this normal? Is my clown fish depressed? What can I do to help him get over this loss?

I would look into why the female died. It wasn't old age if they were only a year old when you got them. Maybe he is sick. I have had to remove one from a pair before after they were together for 2 years and my male was fine.

Just a thought.

Well, turns out she died from being stuck between the rocks and the glass...looks like she had gotten pinned down...and couldn't get out.

It bothers me too because I was just looking at the tank and admiring them about two hours prior...but later that night, she went MIA...

The tank is healthy. Parameters are in check, all other livestock is doing well...

I hope he'll get better. He seems more active today now that the new clown is out swimming and everything - but he still hasn't eaten since the incident...

Same kind of thing happened with my clownfish... he got stuck between the glass and the heater and welp.... wasnt enough for a barbecue but it had the same effect

i had a pair of false percs too, and when one died, the other died about a week later. It could have been that whatever killed the first one, got the second one too, but water param. was all good and didnt look like they had a disease or something.
