Okay, so I've had a pair of ocellaris clowns for over a year now. The female is considerably larger than the male, and they're in a 90 gal tank with other tankmates that do not bother them. Water parameters look great.
So here's the problem: about 2 months ago, I noticed the larger clown getting all excited when I would put food in the tank, but had a hard time eating it? She would swim around, but seemed to only get a piece if it fell in front of her nose. Her skin, breathing and all else seemed fine. Then one day a few weeks ago she went into hiding. She hid in the back of the tank, swimming at the bottom, for at least two weeks. I thought for sure she would die, but every day she was back there, gently swimming. I could see her eat a bit of food if it floated back there. Then, today she finally decided to come out?! She is in the front lower corner of the tank, looking VERY pale orange and sticking to her corner(like she is afraid to go into the open water.) Now I can get a really close look at her and she looks fine except for her very pale color. She seems to be breathing and swimming normally, and dosen't even look thin. I put food in, and she could smell it and got excited. But again, she would only eat it if it seemed to go right in front of her nose, like she didn't know how to go after it. SHe ate about 3 pellets, which is good.
I am wondering if she might be going blind--not totally blind, but enough that it scared her into hiding for two weeks? She just seems like she's disoriented and sorta lost. And maybe she's very pale because she think's its nighttime/and hasn't been eating very well as of late. Has anyone else had an experience like this? It just seems very strange. I put cyclopeez in there to hopefully color her up, but she didn't seem to be able to find the specks of food. I always quarentine new fish going into the tank and no other fish (including her mate) are having any problems at all. What do you think??
