today i looked in my tank and noticed a clump of tissue, very small, that didn't look like any other parts on my ricordia. its translucent with some red veins maybe inside of the tissue. it isn't closed up and looks to be happy. i know i need a pic, i will do that later. does any one have pictures or know of a good website that might show the stages of the splitting of a ricordia? also any personal experience of their ricordia naturally splitting in their system is appreciated! thanks!

I have 3 rics with 2 mouths at the moment and the last one i bought had 3 mouths! Rics grow extra mouths before they split, but the natural splitting process can take a long time.I have had mine for 3 months and they haven't split yet.Once you think the mouth on your ric is fully formed you can easily frag them by making a clean cut in between the two mouths.A few ways you can tell when they are about tp split is when the mushroom begins to fold slightly in the middle,at night you may see the shroom "tense" and start to look like two shrooms. You can also help them split by making a small cut in between the two mouths and let them do the rest!

I am keeping Ricordia Florida which is the most common ric. A Ricordia Yuma may have a different splitting habits.

I am not sure of any website dedicated to Rics at the moment. If you were to go to any online coral retail store I'm sure they would have some info on rics if they sold them.

Do you feed your rics? They love to eat!Feeding can also encourage the splitting process.

I hope this information helps. If you have any questions feel free to send a pm.

Yumas most often extend part of their foot out that eventually breaks off and forms a "bud" that grows into a new yuma.
