I think my tiny Candy Pistol killed my Emerald Crab

There is no body so I can't convict, but there were definitely some nightly clicking in the nights leading to his disappearance.

how likely is my hypothesis, and does this mean I should avoid replacement emerald crab?

I think the bastard killed my peppermint shrimp too, although supposedly I can rule out my fire shrimp on that murder. If I do anther shrimp should I just do another fire shrimp?

I have a 30 gallon display.

While the Pistol shrimp may have killed your Emerald crab, in that size tank you would see remnants of the shell IMO. If you haven't already, you might want to get yourself a small power head and blast the rocks a little. Who knows what might turn up.

On general principles I wouldn't replace the crab: they grow up to nip fins. But can pistols kill? yes.
