I am planning an upgarde and I think I have decided on a 120g Reef Ready tank. I would love to see some pics and a list of what lights you are running, power heads, return pump etc.... Trying to get an idea on what I need to do this upgrade from my 55g. I need to decide on lights do I want to go LED or go with T5/MH combo. I know LED is the newest and cheapest thing but hard to beat MH they are tried and true. But, still I do like the AI and the Radeons. I think I am good on skimmer. I think I need tank, stand, light, maybe some power heads, might just add a few to the Hydor 4's I have and save for Mp40's. Not really sure trying to figure it out. Oh guess my 20g long will not be big enough for a sump maybe I will go with a 40g Breeder or could use my 55g? Any way please give me all the advice you can, I wanna learn the 120g

Thank you!

was the best help i could be as i dont have a 120 but i do know how to find them.stuff like lighting will pretty much the same as it would be for say a 75 90 ect as far as wattages go,maybe need more fixtures to cover footprint.id use the bigger tank for the sump just so theres no shortage of room...ever

just know...you cant go wrong with the 20k radiums on megnetic ballast..gives great blue color hue yet still cripsy bright white and dont NEED to have supplemental lighting.(i have this over my 75)

Here's my 120. The picture is about 2 years old. Lighting ATI 6 54 w, 2 MP 40, skimmer alpha 170, return pump quiet one 4000.

Tek elite 6x54 watt with ati bulbs and reefbrite xho. 1 mp 40 and 1800 Gph return. Asm g3 skimmer with tunze hydrofoamer pump.

all very nice tanks, my biggest issue is what is the best lighting to use ATI 6 or 8 bulb T5, 2 AI Vega LED's, or a MH/T5 combo

I am trying to figure out how i want to do my lighting. I have a 48" Nova Extreme Pro 6x54w i am trying to figure out to add, LED, add MH or just get a whole new fixture

I have had a 120 set up for about 8 months now. LEDs are a DIY. I added 3X39W T5 a few weeks ago for the UV aspect of the color spectrum. Things looked fine, weren't really growing as far as SPS are concerned. Zoas and LPS were doing very well. I would have added 54wers, but my tank is 46" long.

I have a T5/LED combo, which is quite nice in terms of adjusting colour and not having to replace bulbs too often, with good growth and coral colour. MH's are great -I had them previously - the only downside is bulb replacement, energy use, and heat. A T5 fixture is simple to install and I think very effective. I debated this before moving over to the T5/LED combo - you could go 4 or even 6 bulbs with a fixture, and supplement with a couple of strips of LEDS. An 8-bulb fixture would be a ton of light over a 120, but would be doable. I would look at 6 bulb fixture if I were you - the ATI sunpower comes to mind. You could always DIY some T5s and LEDs too depending on how much time you have.
