hey everyone im looking for the metallic green star polyps. i see them in pictures occasionally and they seem to have the longer "blades" and are extremely green. like very green as in the color the grass. id prefer to buy local because i dont usually buy frags in bulk so its dumb to pay next day for one frag imo. every frag ive had has been a light purple mat with purplish tentacles and very little green to them. id like to steer clear from those. ive anyone has these "super magical metallic whatever theyre called star polyps" let me know. i will pay top dollar for any sized frag. the bigger the better! thanks<~~steve

Funny you say that cause ive been looking for the more purple type. I got plenty of the green green grass. Looks like a little underwater KY 31 grass garden.

Steve, I honestly think that the star polyps that you don't want and that you want are one in the same. When we joined the club, we had a fragging and everyone got some of the star polyps out of Dave's store. The problem was that we fragged so many corals in the same water, that the star polyps were stunned somewhat. My frag looked like the ones that you dont want for many months and then all of a sudden the star polyps look like long flowing bright green grass. Just a heads up...I think it depends on the tank, lighting etc. IMHO, of course.

very interesting, i know theres a few different species but cant find much info between the distinctions. id be interested in what conditions you and nick have these used to. im using them to "carpet" the new BB system and it currently has dual 250 xm 20k se and 50+ times turnover. i hope theyll open and spread across the grass and rubble. i think this will look interesting. <~~steve

Hi Steve, did you see the two types of star polyps I had in my largest tank upstairs, when you came to the meeting? The polyps of some are a more dull green and are purple looking when the polyps are not out. The others are a very bright green. I got these from Jeff (Mojo) when he first started breaking down his tank. Nick may have some of these, as well, as he went with me that day.

I agree with Cody on the coloration as well. I have a patch of the star polyps that in my main reef tank, placed down deep, with 400w 20 MH and some vho's they looked kind of slightly purple like your first pic. I moved them to my 75 that is straight vho and within about 3 weeks they have become an electric green like your "wanted" pic.

well this is kind of odd. ive heard they love alot of light and will extend farthest under halides but if dave's dont like his MH i wonder if thats untrue. i hope they like my tank under the 250w 20k's. i appreciate all the input guys!<~~steve

Steve - is your new tank going to be all GREEN...seems like everything you are looking for is bright green. Star polyps, green slimer...

Well I have to disagree somewhat to the star polyps liking a lot of light. I had a huge rock covered in them in a 75 gallon VHO setup at my old store and they were growing like crazy. When I closed I brought the rock home and placed them in my 400w mh setup but only about 12-14 inches down. Not only did they not fluorish but started to literally die off. Once I moved them much deeper they did much better. I did leave some up high and they have completely died off to bare rock.

yes it is, you figured me out richard :) im going to grow nothing but stags focusing mostly on slimers in this 75. it will be my growout tank until we move in august then set up a 150 x-high. 18" tall multibranch stags that are lime green will be striking imo! the gsp's are a simple experiment to cover the bb, in place of starboard. if they dont work ill attempt a very very very large grained substrate in attempts to keep it in one spot. as of right now i have a 1" tall wave that rides across the top of my tank and it looks like a jacuzzi. keeping oolite sand might not work :) <~~steve

Mine have grown like brigth green wildfire under p.c. lights 4x65 That may be why mine ares o green & flowing. when I first got them they did look more purple but since they began thickening up the green grass really brightened.

interesting, maybe these arent optimal for halide lighting. i guess ill find out soon enough! i got some of the less than flattering purple ones ill try until i pick up some frags many of you have so graciously offered to me.<~~steve
