IceCap Ballasts

I am considering buying a new 250w DE IceCap ballast and noticed that you have two difference IceCap ballasts on the site. Some are labeled "new" ballasts and don't appear to come with a ballast box and other ones do appear to come with a box (older ballasts?). What is the difference between these "new" IceCap ballasts and the others? I really liked the blue IceCap ballast boxes and would rather have one of the older models if they come with the box, but if the newer ones are much better I would probably get a new one. Any info you can give me is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi,

The newest ballast from Icecap is located at
http://www.premiumaquatics.com/Merc...OD&Product_Code=ICE-PAC-250-MH&Category_Code=

They do not have the older one available anymore, but PFO does offer the same ballast that Icecap didn't use to, without a box or with a box.

The older ballast is suppose to be more energy friendly, uses a little less power, but didn't put out as much light output.

This new ballast is suppose to put out a lot more light output, so if max output is your goal, you would want the new one. If you don't mind giving up some intensity, the PFo might save you on the electric bill, some.

Thanks for the info. I guess I was confused by the 220v IceCap ballasts that you have listed on your site as the "NEW Style" - are those just for use outside the US? I'm inept when it comes to electrical issues, so I could just be asking a question with an obvious answer. Sorry if that is the case.

Sorry that is confusing. The older ballast, were still called "new style" because they replaced the original Icecap halide, those looked just like an Icecap 660 ballast box. So got confusing when the 3rd model came out.

The 220v can be used international or domestic, but you would have to have a 220v line ran. Many people do this to save electric, but can be costly.
