Many of you may remember I started a project tank for my kitchen. I started with a 40 Breeder, but when I found a 57G Oceanic Illuminata I decided to use this tank instead. Unfortunately, the extra weight looked like it was proving too much for the cabinets, so I drained the tank.
Many folks here expressed reservations about the spot I found for the tank. To be honest I questioned the aesthetics of the decision.
One major goal with this tank was always this: to plumb it into my existing system in order to share the same equipment and stability with my 18 month old, 8 foot reef.
I decided to build a stand and set up the tank as an expansion tank for the DT, and I set up the Illuminata for a few months in a hallway in our finished basement, and I plumbed the tank directly into the house sump. Unfortunately, I quickly became tired of the spot, and I felt such a beautiful tank was wasted as a Kenya Tree and Anthelia repository.
Another goal was to set this tank perpendicular to a wall so that it could be viewed from 3 sides. Unfortunately, I could not find a location to serve my purpose. After setting the tank up for a third time on the opposite side of the basement, and working out a separate sump, not only would it have been nearly impossible to plumb the tank into the main system, but I genuinely didn't like the tank hidden away in it's new corner.
Well folks, enough of the background, and I promise I'm not too crazy. I felt it was necessary to catch folks up who had tagged along on the old thread.
So now for the 4th and final move for this tank. After careful thought, consulting my wife, the kids, and a fellow reefer, I've decided to once again pursue my Specie Millepora tank in my living room.
More to come...
