Ich again! Help!

hi reefers! im fairly new to the hobby. i started my biocube 29 tank in january and added a couple of ocelaris clownfish sometime in march. two weeks later they died of ich (i assume coz of white sandy spots all over the body). i read not to put any fish for 8 weeks or more so i left my tank FISHLESS for 4 months. i bought a pair of onyx clown 2 weeks ago and yet again they died of ich. my water quality is fine and temperature fluctuate from 77.4-78.7 from morning to night. so is it possible the parasites are still living in the tank for the last 4 months without having a fish in it? or should've i treated the tank with something before adding the clowns?

thank you for your answer/s

The new clowns brought in the ich, they probably had it from the LFS you purchased from. Chances are your tank was fine. You should read up on quarantining new fish. You will need to leave your display tank fallow again and quarantine all new fish.

Agreed, after 4 months your tank did not have ich, the new fish brought it in with them. You need to quarantine all new fish before you place them in your display tank.

ya i think i rushed again. QT is not an option for me sadly coz i live in a small apartment. now all i have is a six line wrasse and corals. ive read they're pretty hardy and resistant to ich. should i get the fish out and go fish less again?

my friend has a QT so il do that in the future. but i have a six line wrasse in the tank. should i get it out and go fish less again for 8 weeks or so?

Yes, and the wrasse should be in qt. See if you can qt him to good health and trade him back to the lfs. 6-lines are prone to fight other fish and clowns may not hold up against him. If you have to set a 10 gallon tank on your bathroom or kitchen counter or on the floor of your bedroom, get a qt, or you'll be battling this forever. I strongly suspect your lfs has ich going on, and every time you buy from them, you may have the same problem.

Yes. Take out the 6 line. You need to treat for ich on the 6 line since it's been in the infected tank and is probably infected even though you can't see it.

Do you room for 2 5g buckets? You can do TTM to treat for ich using the buckets. Don't need lots of room.

Dip in Formalin when you 1st get it, then start TTM. Dose ParaziPro during 1st and 3rd transfers. You can QT if you want after that but that should take care of most issues.

ok il get the 6 line out asap. LFS said they had an ich outbreak months ago and did copper treatments.
thank you all for the advise

Nice.

One of the problems with an lfs using copper or hyposalinity is that it suppresses but does not cure during the short time a fish may transit their tanks. It may kill off the weakest parasites, leaving the strong ones to breed. And visit your tank to breed.

Very pretty tank! Get the fish out and let it go fallow. You can see the importance of QT, it's a real bummer to keep losing fish.

im donating the 6 line to a nearby lfs that has a qt. thanks for the advice guys. il go fishless for a 2-3 months and make sure to quarantine new fish/es.
i dont mind just having corals anyways. happy reefing to y'all!

You too! If you can bribe that friend with a burger or two to do that qt for you, that would be great. In the meanwhile, just do corals!

Yep.

If all else fails, dewater the tank, digging hole in left front corner: as water level sinks, he'll probably go there: net; then rewater. Corals won't mind.
