- 03 Blue Reef Chromis
- 01 Coral Banded Shrimp (yellow)
- 02 Yellow Neon Gobies (in refugium)

I started my tank 2 months ago with sea water adding Biopronto and Bactiv8 just with a damselfish captured by myself last months i bought 5 new fishes to my aquarium but last week i saw my tang with a few of white dots, i was shocked, after that if went away or at least thats was i thought, when i turned lights on :o my tangs and butterflies were covered by dots but many more than first time...

Now my question is my tank is a FOWLR, Can i do the hiposalinity Treatment to the entire system??

Thanks!!

PD: I apologize if there is something wrong in my writing!! i'm trying to do my best

Yes you can, however if salinity rises above 1.009 at all you have to start over at day 1. U would use meds, much better at ridding the tank of crypto

Hi Dmorty217, Thanks for your reply... Could you tell me what kind of meds could use in my tank?? i don't want to use copper on the entire system because i want to add some corals next year...

is there any kind of considerations to low the salinity on my tank??? how fast can i do it?

Thanks again!

If your tank does not have much encrusted lives that will die in hypo that will pollute the tank, you can use hypo.

Hypo does not harm nitrification bacteria but many other life forms. If too much ammonia is generated, even unimpaired nitrification may be overloaded.

If time permits, you can cycle some additional medium in a separate container and then rinse with DT water and then add to the DT to boost the nitrification capacity.

Hi, my rock wasn't live when start cycling my tank... so i suppose that my rock doesn´t have a lot of life in there, but i don´t want to kill all my live stock with high levels of ammonia....

If you have the time, robustly cycle some medium in a separate container a few weeks before hypo in DT and then rinse it and then add to DT just before hypo. This will boost the nitrification capacity in your DT.

Do you have about three weeks before ich hits? This is the question.

Or if your rock still does not have encrusted lives you may not have to worry about them dying due to hypo.

Of course you will have to worry about correctly executing hypo and never allowing SG to exceed 1.008/1.009 or you will restart the clock. Many/most people find it difficult to execute hypo properly and, of course, there is at least one species of cryptocaryon irritans that is resistant to hyposaline treatments.

Hi snorvich, is not a problem maintaining the SG in 1.008/1.009, because i have an auto top off in the return chamber and my SG is always the same, but my question is How fast can i go from 1.025 to 1.008??? one day, two days, or just in a few hours?? and I hope don't have that kind of Crypto in my tank...

Thanks

Going down can be done fairly rapidly (perhaps over about 2 days) but coming up must be very slowly.

Hi, Will hyposalinity harm my Coral Banded Shrimp, snails and Hermit Crabs? I start lowering my tank SG last night, but talking with a friend he told me that all my inverts will die in hypo... What should i do?? I was reading in another post about using Reef Safe Kick-Ich... I'm really worried about my fishes because this morning i observed all of them except the three blue reef chromis with white dots... I don't wanna loose them...

Thanks

Hypo will like kill many such invertebrates.

You can support them with small portion of rock in DT and place them in a separate container. If you do not have an extra filter, if the use a flat and wide container it might well work if the bioload for gaesous exchange is quite low. You need to support them like this to fallow out, about 10-12 weeks.

My tank SG is now on 1.022 but i wil stop there until remove all my inverts... today my fishes looks better talking about less white dots... all my fish are eating good... Water parameters are Nitrite:0, Ammonia:0, Nitrate:10, now I don´t know if there is normal but I just see the white dots in the morning when i turn on my dinnig roon lights, when I go back to my house for lunch there is no dots at all... but at night the dots start coming back just few of them...

Thanks again!!

Looks of the fish are not relevant since Ich comes and goes from a visual perspective. Until you have treated the tank and all fish in it, your problem is not resolved. If you are running hypo in the display tank, for absolute certainty, it will have to remain there for 72 days. If you exceed the target SG, the clock restarts.

Ich leaves the fish as a part of its lifecycle. Each generation's offspring comes back in ever greater numbers in a closed system.

Hi, unfortunally 7 of 10 fishes are dead, I think the Ich is not the responsible about that but was a collateral damage... In the city where I live there had been many frequent power outages since about 10 days ago, and my tank was without power at least 48 hr in 5 days...after the third day my fish started dying... Now i have a Generator in my house but my fishes are already dead...
