ich on my tangs?

Well two day a go i notice a white dot on one of my green blue chromie then it was acting weird now my tangs have white dots on there fins and tale, tangs have been moved to a QT tank, but I wonder if i should just do hyposalinity to my main display as well as my QT tank?


my main tank has only fish,shrimp,crabs and sea stars (no corals) and 30lbs live rock

IIRC shrimp, crabs or starfish can not survive hyposalinity. Others might chime in though.

only the fish would make it through hyposalinity as pointed out above. to ensure ich is eradicated from the DT, you will need to leave it fallow (fishless) for 3 months.

what are your plans for treating the fish? TTM is my recommendation, followed by copper.

I really dont know cant have my animals in the 20g QT for 3 months, not even just my fish.

i really dont know what to do if i have to leave the tank with no fish for 3 months .

I was thinking on putting my shrimp,crabs and starfish in the QT till hyposalinity was done which i think it was 6 weeks, but even that is pushing the limit of my QT tank

I would ttm the fish,then place them in the 20 while your display is fishless for 72 days.Of course you would need to clean and refill the 20 before ttm.

how many fish do you have and sizes?

fwiw, i kept 6 medium sized tangs together in a 30g tank for 2 months for QT once. no issues [until I added them to my DT anyway.... different story]

I wouldnt necessarily recommend the above situation, but does show that cramming some fish for a short period of time together in a small space is possible. you could also borrow a 55g from someone or get it really cheap on craigslist or similar. you don't need much for the tank. airstones, heater and PVC pipes is all it takes.

he pluralized tang though. so perhaps a single chromis and a couple/few tangs. if so, a 30 or 40 would work perfectly. just use bacteria-in-a-bottle like Seachem Stability to boost bacteria. done deal.

is a 180 gal with 4 chromis,4 cardinals, 3 gobies, 3 tangs, 1 royal gramma and 2 yellow tale damsels.

Never used QT tanks before, now im just think on returning/give back my fish to LFS and only keep my tangs and cuc in that tank

all less than 1/2" but my tangs they are 1 1/2" or less

Azcrazy,I know how you feel,I am upgradeing from a 75 to 180 and will be doing ttm on all my fish before they go into the qt.I got 2 yellow tangs,1 sailfin tang,1 pair of manderins 1 pair of clowns coral beauty and lawn mower blenny and a total of 27 bangaiis.I will be doing several ttms.

If you are considering getting rid of any fish, this would be good timing to get rid of the damsels (bullies).

You can leave in ALL non-fish in the DT during a fallow/fishless period. Ich requires a fish host to survive.

Two 20 gallon tanks may be better than one 40 gallon. With two tanks you can split the fish up to avoid fighting. It also gives you later more flexibility to quarantine new fish.

yea i was able to pick up a 55g tall with a stand, canopy,light,filter for $100 so i will run a 50 QT and 20g long qt
