Ich qt question

Take a look at the Aquaclear HOB filters, they use a tray configuration for holding the different media you may want to use. On my QT's I fill them with a ton of sponge and the ceramic media to get the most bio-filter I can. The tray is a really nice feature, you can just toss any media in a mesh bag and given the design of the filter, it's almost as efficient as a fluidized bed filter we all use on the display tanks.

ok, so can i leave my mandarin in the tank or should i take him out, my LFS said they would hold him for me but i know they almost never get ich so i was wondering. Can i hypo all my fish? 2 tangs flame angel, potter angel, majestic angel, harliquin tusk, purple firefish, 2 damsels, a fariy wrasse.

Also, the majestic is looking pretty bad, and i know it takes a week or 2 to get the qt ready, so is there anything i can do temporally till then? or just hopes and prayers?

Since i've never done this, what do i need to watch, i know take the salinty down to 1.009 over 3 days, watch amonia, test daily for that. Anything else? Do i have to use RODI or will just tap with amquel work? Also is novaaqua and amquel ok to use during hypo?

THANKS!

ok longhorn cowfish was dead when i came home today, and my majestic isn't looking so hot....i went and bought a 45 gallon bucket and a tetra whisper ex45, i put the filter in the DT to build up. If i'm doing hypo should i run the carbon? Do you think the 45 is big enough for all the fish i've listed? How long should i wait before i start to catch and move over? As far as watching pH do i just check daily and if its not good do a water change?

Forget about pH, with hypo it will never be 8.2 no matter how much buffer you shovel in there, I have QT'd over 30 fish, and have yet to check pH in a QT. You will want to get yourself a new Ammonia Test Kit....you'll use the hell out of that guy. Some people will measure Nitrite, but again, with SW it's not nearly as toxic as it is with FW, I only measure it simply to tell me where in the cycle I am.

As for the saltwater, tap water with a conditioner such as Prime is just fine also. I just take a 5 Gal bucket to the bathtub, fill it up, mix some salt in, and do the water change an hour later. Amquel works equally as well, however a bottle of Prime lasts much longer. Per the manufacturers directions, 5 mL of Prime is good for 50 Gallons of water, 5 mL of Amquel is only good for 10 or 20 Gals. That same bottle of Prime or Amquel will come in handy later when you start dealing with Ammonia, and can't immediately do a water change.

If you're starting to loose fish now, you want them in QT as quickly as possible, so once the water is mixed and up to temp, start transferring them over. You can use Carbon, or even a carbon w/ ammonia binder in it, but it will be depleted quickly, so be ready to replace it every couple of days.

I've lost the angel now to. I can't do it till sun now. I've decided to do cupermaine now.so now it's only rodi but my question now is my mandarin ok for cup.
