ich question

There are many ways that people say you can treat ich. The best probably is to take out all your fish and put them in a QT tank (with no sand) which you'd perform hyposalinity to kill off the ick. You can find the info for this procedure on google. Other people would recommend trying to add a cleaner wrasse, cleaner shrimps, or neon gobies which would eat off the ich. This might do the trick. Some people would tell you that ich is ALWAYS in the tank. Your fish just has to build the immunity to the diseases. Feeding them your usual foods dipped in garlic or a specific type of medication might help. Like always, what works for some people might not work for you.

You gotta remove all the fish and treat them seperately. I've done hyposalinity and it worked perfectly. I would suggest a refractometer if you are going the route of hyposalinity. Leaving the main tank fallow for 6-8 weeks will also allow the ich to go through its life cycle without finding a host and dying off.

if i leave the tank for 6-8 weeks can i leave the anemone in there or do i need to take it out???

you can leave it in there. good luck with the ick. hypo is the best way, even though copper may be another option.

I've read an article in an aqarium magazine that leaving the tank fallow isn't a guaranteed solution. The ich begin their lifecycle searching for a host to attach itself to, and if it doesn't find a host then it will subsequently die within four weeks, leaving those extra 2-4 weeks for extra time for others to begin their lifecycles. The problem that I is that they may not all begin their lifecycles within that period of time...I'll read that article again to see if I may be misinterpreting it.

from what i've read long ago .. siapin is correct. in addition, treatments are only effective in a specific time frame of their lifecycle. before the ick is ready to attached itself to a host, it's vulnerable to treatment. ich digs itself underneath the fish skin, using the fish for protection.

i fought ich many time and each time using different strategy. i've lost 2 power blue and 2 sohal in the process. now im using cleaner wrasse, cleaner shrimps and mixing garlic extract with fish food. also, i stopped messing around inside the tank, stirring things up, and minimize submersing my hand and arm.

so far, i have both power blue and sohal in my tank for more than 9 months now - ich free. i just need them to stop slicing each other up

I have tried hypo many times it has never worked for me.Finally after loosing a few tangs,I got serious...I emptied my tank of fish for 4 weeks and used copper in a quarantine tank for 2 weeks. That was 2 years ago.I still have the 4 tangs and other fish from the quarantine, but no more ich.
