hey everyone,
my 125 has a major problem with ich but i got everyone out already and they are all cured. i read that you should leave the tank running with no fish in it for about 4-6 weeks. in my QT would it be smart to put rocks from the 125 in them or can the ich reproduce from the rocks? thanks for the help

HI,

how long have the fish been in the QT?

How did you cure them? If you used Hypo then you know hypo can kill the life forms on the rocks.

You should leave the main tank fishless for at least 6 weeks to make sure the life cycle of the parasite is broken.

I would not remove the rocks, why do you want to move the rocks?

In my 135 I have about 300lbs you probably have a lot too.

hey,
actually i have three QT tanks set up. one for two tangs and another for 1 tang and 2 chromis. the third one is empty because i take the fish out of the miniature "regular" tanks and put them in the third to treat them. i use fermaldahyde a.k.a. quick cure. the two tangs have been in the regular QT for 3 days but the quick cure has cured them fully. so im leaving them in there until the ich cycle is broken. the other tang is cured as well are the chromis. i want to leave the third tank running though incase an outbreak occurs in the QT's. the reason i want to know if i can some of the rocks in the first two QT's is because it will give them hiding places and it wont affect the rocks because im not treating in those two tanks? any thoughts or ideas?

"because i take the fish out of the miniature "regular" tanks and put them in the third to treat them" Sorry-I really don't understand what you are saying here.

I would watch them, I have never used quick cure. But after a couple days the larger parasites could have fallen off if the treatment is working but still have small cysts on the fish.

I still would not remove the rocks.

If you want something for them to hide in clay pots, or PVC seems to work well.

My foxfacce was in QT for 6 weeks before I put him in my main tank and PVC is what he hide/slept in.

ps. remember to keep up the water quality in your tanks.

Not sure how big they are or how big your fish are, but ammonia can build up fast.

when I use QT, I always vaccum up the uneaten food (daily basis) to help with the water quality
