ICH treatment idea -

I treat ALL fish I get. No matter what! I treat them with 2 treatments of Prazipro and usually 6 weeks of Cupramine at 0.5 and never seen an issue with any fish labed sensitive (dwarfs, large angels, tangs, butterflies, etc.) Fish can look fine and exhibit no symptoms of ich/velvet and then you place those fish into a display tank and they then give it to everyone else. Some may not agree with treating without seeing symptoms but I am just not willing to take the risk and loose fish I already have. One of those lessons learned and if I had to do everything over kinda thing.

OK I assume you follow the directions on the bottle for the Prazipro? You said 2 treatments what does that mean?

6 weeks of Cupramine at .5 what do you use to test that level? I have a real hard time telling those colors apart.......

First week Prazipro and Cupramine, 50% water change and another full dose of Prazipro and add Cupramine to get back to 0.5. After the 2nd week another 50% water change and add just Cupramine to get back to 0.5.

That probably means that I should have shut up a while ago. Don't let it drive you crazy, decide what you are comfortable with and go with that.

Well I was comfortable with Seachems advice that the Paraguard would work...Now you guys are putting doubt in my head that Seachem is wrong and I don't know what to do.........

I know I don't want ich in my main tank again.....

For me, whether a fish has shown sign of infestation of ich or oodinum makes no difference.

All livestocks from commercial sources are presumed to be infested and the same procedure for eradication applies to all. Eight or more weeks or fishlessness for inverts and active continuous treatment for fish. In general, mere observation is futile.

What is your continuous treatment?

Prazipro and cupramine at the same time? Full dosage amount per the bottle of each? And what size is your treatment tank?

Yes, at the same time (Cupramine is not compatible with many things, but Prazipro is compatible.) Full dosage on Prazipro and I do Cupramine half dose first day and second half dose the second day. If the fish seem really stressed then I may wait until the 2nd or 3rd day to add meds. My treatment tanks range from 20-50 gallon.

OK thanks. so basically you follow directions on the bottle. Thanks

What do you use to test the copper level?

Copper test kit for straight copper.

The truth is that I used to test every time I added copper. But after testing repeatedly for a few years I no longer test every time I add copper, the reading has always been very similar. With the same setup (with the same calcaerous material), adding straight copper every three days seems to be almost always correct.

Some say copper is very toxic and precison is needed. To a point this is true, but any where between 0.25 and 0.4 ppm right after addition is OK, it seems to me.

I test for copper may be every three times I add copper. I know it will very unlikely exceed 0.4 ppm.

You may use chelated copper. I don't have a strong opinion on this.

quick question can you treat a lion in copper
I think you can. IIRC, Cu sensitive fishes include most Centropyge angels, A. ephippium anemonefish, scaleless fish, i.e. dragonets, eel's and the elasmobranchs sharks and rays.

A straight free copper ion shouldn't be used with the aforementioned Cu sensitive fish.

If you're concerned, the proponents of amine-complexed copper, cupramine, claim it's safe for copper sensitive fish. I can't say one way or the other. My general course of action is straight free Cu ion Copper Sulfate, primarily to treat Amyloodinium ocellatum direct or prophylactically as i haven't encountered Cryptocaryon irritans in decades. Thats not to say crypt isn't a present threat and it would behoove you to determine which of the two commonly called ich you're treating.

I'll add that i'd never treat a elasmobranch with cupramine until learning it's been proven safe by the scientific community and public aquaria.

i did treat my lion and all the other fish in copper for two weeks and thay all made it the only one i was wored about was the lion and he is know back in tank eating and doing good altho he did not eat much in the copper and lost weaght but is doing good know
