Ick getting bad after 8 weeks of hyposalinity

Id PM the ich Expert, Snorvich.

from everything I read, max 7 days it should fall off ...

other "Ich looking" diseases would kill the fish before the 7 days.

or maybe ure achilles is turning into a gem tang :) jks,

its ick, I have been dealing with it for almost 10 years

That seems like a matter of choice...

Either way, pictures would be helpful in showing us the severity of the infestation, so we can offer you the best course of action. Day 7, still covered in ich, seems like hypo isn't working. I wouldn't expect all of the ich to just drop off one day - when there's so much of it throughout the tank, it's going to be at different stages in the life cycle all at once, not synchronized.

Hypo does not make ICH fall off. it prevents the Ich from re-attaching to fish [kills it in free swimming stage]

please review the great info on the stickies

Fluke ... would have killed fish by now.

as reported, Ich is falling off, lowering. probably so much slime on the fish has been lost that the skin looks like it still carries strings of ich. those should disappear by tomorrow.

It is not uncommon for strains of Cryptocaryon to be immune to periods of hyposalinity.

no study has ever shown a strain of Ich mutating and ...

but it is certainly possible ... I agree.

this is like saying copper kills some fish, or angelfish ... both come from hobbyists trying to QT and medicate a fish, and as we both know, thats not done in a lab. Alot of user Error involved. ask snorvich or tuskfish. I bet 99.9% of those cases of mutated Ich strain, is from user error of raising SG or re-introducing the ich in another way [adding fish to QT, old nets, or so on]

FWIW, I always treat fish that have ich with hypo. wait till spots are gone, then wait another week or two at hypo with an ATO, then a week to raise it and all good.

Too long in Hypo and fish's organs may be damaged ... so might be time to take them out of Hypo here.

The point is, the strain didn't mutate, a new strain was added with the new achilles tang. The fish need to be in hypo for a complete 4 weeks after the last spot was seen for the treatment to work.

Flukes would not necessarily have killed the fish by now, unlikely that the OP is dealing with them but possible. If he would just post pictures we could get other possible ailments off the table.

what will you be able to tell from a none moving picture ? even the pros cant tell anything from it ! u have to watch the fish to be able to tell ! ich, lympho, fluke, ... they all look the same in pictures !

there is just sooo much mis-information on here .. i feel bad for new ppl trying to read these to decide how to treat fish and so on.

Ami, my last reply about mutated strain, was towards the person I quoted, Reeferstace. I agree with ure comment about having to leave fish in hypo for some time after last spot :)

Not true, a clear photo helps tremendous. I suspect a resistant strain and in that is not the same spots the OP is seeing everyday but new ones since the infestation has gotten so extreeme.

I mean no disrespect, but this is what I was referring to.

I disagree that pictures all look the same, but if that's how you want it, I'll take a video

Agreed. Lots of misinformation, or plain misunderstanding.

where is the Ich and the achilles ? :)

the emperor doesnt look that bad. ... looks like day 3-4 after an ich outbreak.

josh, do u see dots moving in the pic and video ? I have no Idea, but maybe you guys have extra ordinary powers to see stuff beyond what a photo has captured :P

Looks like ich to me. There are some pretty definitive spots on the emperor's head imo, and though you can't see that many "spots" with the lighting and video quality, the cloudiness on the pectoral fins (on both emp and scribbled) looks pretty bad. There's a pretty distinct texture on the emp's skin too.

So what are the options you are considering bullitr? Stay the course with hypo, or something different? What's the salinity at right now? Do you have CP on hand?

Seriously, some of us take time out of our busy days to help trouble shoot and give advice. If you want to be the guy that is friends with the OP and be arrogant then my time on this thread is done.

If the OP wants my opinion he can pm me. Good luck.
