ick

okay, i have a question about ick. how do you explain this. I've had my saltwater tank up for about two years. It is a hundred and twenty five gallon tank with live rock, sand and seven fish. two clownfish a dragon wrasse, yellow tang, copperband butterfly fish, a strawberry dottyback and a cowfish. I have had all my fish since i started the tank except the copperband which i added a year after i started the tank. no problems with any disease at all. now about five days ago my cowfish has manifested ick. he has stopped eating and has white spots all over which are getting progressively worse. I have not introduced any new rock, sand, fish or equipment since the copperband a year ago, so where did the ick come from? Is ick always present in the tank. none of my other fish have any signs of ick. jennifer.

You would have gotten more replies in either the New, Reef Discussion, or Disease forums, and I am sure a Mod will move this to the proper one.

Anyway, from my understanding, ick (if this is what your fish has) is always present, but a healthy fish will be able to fight it off. It would be helpful if you listed your water prams. Perhaps you have slacked off a bit on the water changes, and the fish have become stressed?
