ID: blue & purple gigantea carpet?

vaporize

New member
Hello,

In a rush shipment purchase, I think I might have accidentally purchased two gigantea carpets (thinking that it's normal haddoni carpets). Just wanted to see if I IDed these correctly.

Also looking for any experience in keeping this species as to flow/light/placement/difficulty/things to watch out etc..

I am not new to keeping clown-hosting anemones and have 8 morphs of BTA and some haddoni carpets, also kept sebae & LTA anemones before. Just wondering if there are anything I should watch out for?

Thanks for any help.

I'd say gigantea on both. Nice score, may I ask where you got them from? Gigantea is a reasonably rare find up here in Canada.

They need bright light and strong flow. Flow is more important though, don't underestimate how much flow they can handle. The first few weeks with this species is VERY dicey, the odds of them surviving are, sorry to say, not great. I'm not sure I would have them in with a clownfish during this time as their constant thrashing about is sure to not help the anemones get over the acclimatizing to life in captivity. I know some people say that they'll do better with clowns right away but that's just not been my experience, I think they do better without clowns, until later on.

Anyhow best of luck.

I am one of those people. I just picked up my 3rd gigantea a couple of months ago. As with my last gigantea, it seemed to settle in much better once I added the clowns. I will say that the clowns that I aded were small in size compared to the anemone. YMMV. Im not sure about adding large clowns with a small anemone...

I agree with the flow and lighting recommendations.
