i would think gigantea also as you can see the veruccae and the tentacles are longer than haddoni.

nice carpet either way

thank you.

BTW....has anyone kept these long term? when i did a search it looks like most have lost theirs. If anyone has had their's long term please let me know how i can better care for this.

Currently in a compartment of my sump 24x14x20H but the sand is very deep so the anemone is less than a foot away from the 150W hqi light. there's also a lot of flow going through there.

John, John, you need to search before you buy.
It is a S. gigantea.
It needs lots of water movement and bright light. phender and Rod Buehler at Rod's Reef are a few who keep them long term. I think Rod use a surge and Phil recommended a surge system, but he use a rotating return of some kind.

Thanks Orion.
I have a lot of flow and a lot of light. I'm hesitant to put it in the main display tank bc i'm afraid it'll eat my fish. That's why i bought a 150W hqi light today for it. Just one of those things i couldnt resist.

I don't think they are know to eat fish in aquarium like S. haddoni. I am not saying that they don't but no one report this as far as I know. It may be that there are so few in captivity, and most of these are in species tank.

Yep, I believe that surges are very helpful (chaotic random flow with periods of rest). Temp at 80+ (84 if I could). And good strong lighting. is that 150 for the 24" deep tank, or do you have more lighting for the 72x30x24? (nice size/shape! )

Neither of my giganteas (2)have eaten any other fish. None of my anemones have except for the hadoni's I used to have. I keep a magnifica, BTAs and giganteas

Rod, the 150 is for compartment in my sump that the anemone is in. there's a 4" sandbed so the anemone is actually less than 12" more like 8-10" from the light.

over my display i have 3-250W (2 10K xm, and 1 20K radium) run by hqi.

i was thinking of moving the anemone to my display, but i'm running barebottom and have lots of fish that i really dont want to lose(moorish idol, red sea regal, personifier angel, scribbled angel, flagfin angel, lots of anthias, mystery wrasse, powderblue tang, purple tang and some others i cant think of right now)

also, do gigantea move around a lot?

My oldest gigantea (12+in my presence) has been attached to the same rock for at least 9 years, and my other has only moved once. It moved about 6" when I lost a light for 2-3 days. As with all anemones, once they find their spot, they stay put in my experience. None of my anemones move. If all of your fish are healthy/active, I dont see the gigantea being a threat. I wont say that its not possible, but I doubt that you would lose any of those fish to a gigantea.

Good luck!

i see, thanks. Well if the gigantea makes it (mouth is looking a little loose, about nickle to quarter size) i'll move the rock it's attached to in the main tank.
