What is the orange/white thing? It has a hard shell and spends quite a bit of time under the sand.

You've got a polyplacophoran, otherwise known as a chitin. It's in the same phylum as the snails, clams, slugs, nudibranchs, octopi, and squid: the molluscs. It's an algae eater. And I'm jealous!
