ID on Goby

Mojo Jojo

In Memoriam
Got my first little guy to go in my nano. Decided to get him to help stir up some sand. Ocean Design labeled him Viva Goby, but cant find that name.

I looked in Dr. Burgess's mini-atlas of Marine Aquar. fishes and it could be one of these:

Herre's Samoan Prawn Goby(Ctenogobiops aurocingulus) or
a Fringfin Goby(Tongeichthys criniger?)

You know this goby is just weird to find. His top fin is yellow, his bottom belly is yellow, his body is white, has spots that are brown and red, and when the light hits him right you can see these glowing spots down his body. Sorry for the ugly pictures, but I'm working on getting a good camera. Could he be a hybrid of something? At the time he is about 2'' you think I should keep him or trade him? What other small goby shifts the sand? Thanks for all the help:D

I don't see any picture.

Meant about the first two I took, they really do no justice to him. Hes a cool little guy swims around the tank and then plunges down to suck some sand. I saw 7 different gobys that may be him. Three of them say my tank is fine, but the other say a 55g is needed. I think I'll play it safe and get a black and white clown tom.

I could not do it lol, in the morning I was going to bag him and chicken out. I'll keep him and see if he grows any bigger.

What size is your tank? If he is a sifter goby, he'll filter out the critters that live in your sand bed. As long as you have a decent amount of critters in your sand and live rock, he'll be fine. I assume he also eats anything you feed your tank, right? I have a sifter goby, looks similar to yours, but not exactly. Mine is a pig. If you try to catch him, good luck. Mine is like catching a bullet! He looks so slow, but when it is time to put a net around him, off he goes.

Its a 12 gallon, he does sift sand. He likes Rods food so that's good, in the morning I saw him going around the rock nipping at things. How big is your goby? I dont have a problem with keeping him as long as he does not grow anymore than 4''. If he does either I trade him or get a bigger tank if I have the money for it.
