So first pic was some little hitch hikers I took off of a friends star polyp rock and super glued to my tanks rock.

The second pic was purchased as a marshalls island yellow fuzzy acro or a blue bottle brush it is a confirmed ORA coral though just dont think it seem to match either one of those descriptions that greatly.

I'm mostly curious to see what the hitch hikers turn out to be.

Thanks first pic is of both the purple and orange sps corals that I plucked from the GSP rock and just super glued to my rock in hopes of it growing in to something interesting. I have no clue what the first pic is because they are wild caught hitch hikers off a GSP harvested from the wild.

Well thanks for the info I'm excited to see what the hitchhikers grow in to and also to see if the acropora tenuis colors up nicely. My emerald crab seems to be chilling in the acro quite a bit so I hope that dosent affect anything.

This I a hitch hiker from a wild caught mushroom rock I have a few thoughts of what it could be but don't want to intense peoples opinions on it. So what do you guys think it is?

The very first one is Lace corals (Distichopora spp.) http://www.arkive.org/lace-corals/distichopora-spp/

I am doubting the tenius awnswer. Tenius has "Radial corallites are arranged in a neat rosette and have slightly flaring lips." like so.

That frag's corallites are pockets. I always choose subulata in those situations.

The last one is hard to tell what is going on. If it is a hard encrusting coral with 1/4" channels with long tentacles off the walls I would guess Hydnophora exesa.

I was also thinking of it being an encrusting hydnophora the only thing that's throwing me off is that it has pretty large polyps on the little piece that's about the size of a nickel.

Only one of the lace corals look like it might have made it thru the shipping and I really don't even know if it will even survive or if it still is alive.

The coral that look like an encrusting hydnophora has some receded tissue exposing old skeleton but it looks like its older damage but u guess only time will tell me if it makes it.

I find it interesting on what type of hitch hikers we can pick up on the rock and corals we buy that are harvested from the ocean.

ST1, you are correct. I didn't get a name for mine when I bought it, and no one seemed to know beyond one person telling me I was wrong but giving no alternative (I think he just wanted to say I was wrong to try to make me look stupid ) I had to guess based on pics like this that I found. I'll have to go correct all my shot tags in Flickr now LOL.

Same coloring, same polyps as mine.

Frick confirmed my thoughts on what it was with his link post a few posts above this one and that website he posted is pretty useful I actually bookmarked it in safari now.

Your specimen looks great by the way I do believe it's an encrusting specimen so it will grow over rock of you place it there but other words it looks happy and healthy.

Yes, I finally found an old mostly flat rock I used to have in an old tank & put it on that yesterday. Sure takes up space on what little sandbed I had, but it should be happier.
