ID please, new green thing

this weed looking thing popped up today on my 5 day old LR. Also some othre green stuff poping up that almst looks like grass. Although very small if you really look you can see it on the rock in this pick around the larger green thing.

Also When can I add a clean up crew. The Rock as been in there for 5 days but no ammonia spike yet. no ammonia at all in there

Not sure, but could be a type of Caulerpa? Not an expert on marine macroalgae however, so look for confirmation from others.

the algae in the pic looks like a Caulerpa macroalgae of some kind. its hard to tell from pics, and when they are that small. they are fine in a refugium, but in a display they can take over. if you have, or plan on having a refugium, place it there.

the other you described sounds like the common hair algae. again common with new rock. my Astraea Snails ate mine. it should go away in time with proper water maintence.

you can add a few snails when ever. but some may die, if you get a spike from something.

it appears to be Caulerpa mexicana, great macro algae.... tangs love it

I'd say caulerpa. It is too rowdy for a display tank, gets roots into the rockwork and is a general PITA, besides being mildly toxic when crushed.

Caulerpa taxifolia, good for nutrient export but dont let it grow unrestricted. It will take over, just look at the Mediterranean!

so how do I get rid of it.? Snails, hermit crabs.? I wont have fish in the tank for a month or so because its just starting to cycle

ide say bryopsis plumosa over caulerpa. how big is that piece there? if it grows larger it will be easier to tell. if its not bryopsis then probably C. taxifolia like was said before.

that peice is about 1/2 inch maybe smaller. But Friday it was a spec almost not visable. I went away for the weekend and now its 1/2 inch. And there are a few more on that same rock. what eats it.??

Hand prune it is your best bet. If it is indeed C. taxifolia, very little does eat it - half the problem with its invasiveness. Tangs, rabbitfish, algae blennies may eat it depending on its species.
