ID Please. True or False Percula

False. The black does not bleed...
Based on the single picture:
It does not appear to be mature, appears to have a bright eye ring, and appears to have a darkening dorsal area; hence I would lean more toward A. percula. Of course, I have been wrong before and would not place bets unless I could confirm the point of origin

There's really no such thing as a false percula. What you are asking is: is this an A. Percula, or A. Oscilaris. Two seperate species. The oscilaris is many times incorrectly given the confusing name "false percula". It's much easier to refer to their spicies name. Also, look at the eyes. Percs will have a bright orange outside ring on their eye. Osc. Will have a "muddy" looking eye.
so 2 definitely falses, and two thats statements indicate its a true
so which is it?? Im confused
I know pretty much nothing about clowns......have a couple, have always been told they are false, or more accurately put I guess Ocellaris.
To be sure what is this?
By the counting the dorsal spines theory its neither.

I dont spend any time in the clownfish forum, but you guys are funny :lol: Your analysis is much more conclusive on my fish than the OP's for sure. Maybe he has a mix of the two?

Opinion is like an XXXX (subtitle what ever you want). Each person has at least one.
About the ring around the pupil of the the eye as characteristic, this can change with how the picture is taken. With flash photo, one can have an Ocellaris with bright orange ring while certain light condition can bring a shadow to the Percula eyes. This characteristic is very reliable IMO but have to use in person, looking at the fish. It reliability decrease markedly if just picture is used.
The OP fish looks like a young fish. My opinion is that he is a Ocellaris due to the general shape and coloration. IMO, the pictuer is a flashed photo, and the eye ring look like it does have a muddy ring around the pupil instead of clear orange. Certainly there are lots of PerculaXOcellaris clownish out there (I have one). He may be one of these.

Flyguy, that's definitely an ocellaris. It has 11 dorsal spines. It also just looks like an ocellaris.
The OP's fish is also a CB ocellaris. It's dorsal fin is to tall to be a perculla and I would be willing to bet it has 11 dorsal spines.
The eyes mean nothing to me. This is my female ocellaris. I assure you she is an ocellaris, but she has orange irises. Every photo I take of her turns out the same. Her boyfriend has dark irises.
