Sorry for the not so great photos. My father sent these to me from his phone. He said this creature appeared this morning out of no where. Center of creature is purple/blue with yellow fringes on the sides. Length about 4-6 inches, depending on how it was crawling.

Dangerous? Destructive? Coral Eater? Poisonous when dead?

It looks like to me you may have a bristle worm. If it is, it isn't too bad. Some get big enough to eat other inverts in your aquarium, but I think it is over exaggerated.

Thanks for the replies. I've been searching around a little, a bristle worm is the only thing that look even close to what that is. Theres a video on youtube of one of these devouring a whole fish. Guess what were going to do with it? :blown:

Bristle worms are an incredibly awesome addition to your aquarium, I'd advise not removing it. Bristle worms are detritivores, meaning they eat waste from other animals and consume the dead. If you see a bristle worm eating something it's because it's already dead, or very close to death. A system full of these guys is almost guaranteed to be a healthy system. Based on the picture though, I'm a little skeptical as to whether it's a bristle worm or not. Bristle worms usually don't come out while the lights are on, and if you do manage to see one with the lights on, it'll generally be in a very shaded area where you wouldn't be able to get a decent picture of it. You might look into fire worms and see if that fits your worm better. If that is the case, I'd remove it.

Couldn't have said it better myself :).

There seems to be mixed reviews about these worms. "Firmworms" are believed to be an issue no matter what I read. Regular bristle worms, I've read both sides of the story. We have lost, what appear to healthy fish, unexpectedly on several occasions. Yet, we have fish that have been in there for 6 months, no problem.

I'm not saying this is the culprit. But it's another possibility, I guess.
