My friend just received his first clam and he doesn't know the type he got. Can somebody help us ID the clam ?

It is enough with this pricture or you need another one showing the sides of the shell ?

He has 250 watts 10 K metal halides. Were he should place the clam ? on the substrate or more near the surface ?

Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the help......

From what I understand, the croceas prefer very high light intensity and they do better in high flow than the othe clams..... is that right ?

Having said that, in a 24" with 2 x 250 MH it is OK to place it in the substrate ? or it will open better if place higher and in the rocks ? Right now the crocea is not opening very much (just as you see in the picture).

This is a good exercise for me since in the near future I'm planning to buy one for me. I have a new tank coming and as soon as it's stable, I'm planning to introduce one. I have 1.000 watts (400 MH and T5's) so I think that light shouldn't be a problem.

Any other important tips for the crocea ?

Definately move it closer to surface. Croceas do need more light than most tridancnids, although i'm not sure about ideal water flow. Mine lived for quite a while and it was in moderate to light water flow.

Mine is well-settled 20 inches from the actual mh 250 light in pretty brisk but occasional flow.
