Sorry for the quality. Not so hot but this is on a piece of rock that I got from Phil. What is it Phil? It must be pretty hardy since it was out of water for several hours. Any idea what it is?

I think it is a sponge, I had alot of them in my tank. I am suprised it lived since it was out of the water for so long. Goes to show that if you wrap stuff with wet paper towels it helps to keep it alive. It could also be feather duster tubes. There were alot of those on the rock also. I can't really tell from the pic but I would say sponges. Especially if they are white and soft. If they start receiving alot of light they will turn brown.

Heres more but I can't seem to get a clear shot. I don't think it's a xenia and would be hard to think it was a sponge since it was out of water so long.

I have those. I believe they are some form of sponge, the only ones to make it through the last aquascaping, as all rock was out of the tank about 36 hours, (sitting on plastic garbage bags to catch the drainage)

That is exactly what is on one of my rocks that I turned up when I re scaped a couple weeks ago. Mine is more yellow, but shaped the same and so on. I thought sponges died when air hit them, they starve to death.

apparently these don't. I noticed mine deflated. I expected die off but instead when I put them back in the tank they just spread like wild fire. But I lost all of my yellow ball sponge. Or at least I haven't been able to find any of it anywhere since the re aquascaping was done.

I never get lucky and get neat stuff like that. I got a sponge...but its yellow and plain looking. Congrats on the kool pink sponge.

When most sponges or tunicates hit air they die because of trapped air bubbles which enter the creature. I have heard it explained as much like the bends in humans. However there are a few species of dense tunicates, almost always pale yellow/white in color that seem to transition from aquarium to aquarium with no trouble at all.
