ID: Scarus Quoyi Parrot?

The Quoyi just arrived and I'm acclimating in a bucket with airstone right now. The fish does not look good at all. It's covered in white blotches, very discoloured. Have seen this on other fish and seems to stress related rather than parasitic/illness related. But when I look at that first picture I posted I notice the second Quoyi poking its head in seems to have blotches. If this is just the colouration of this particular fish I'm going to be most ****ed off. :p

Sorry to hear about that, Larry. Good luck with it, especially factoring in they are so hard to come by.

I contacted Old Town about their specimen yesterday. I know beggars shouldn't really be choosers with these fish but in this case it was just a bit larger than I'd hoped (8") so I passed. I don't mind one growing to this size and a little beyond in the tank but I'd rather that it start out a tad smaller Jason at GA has said he will occasionally will get them in as small as 6" so I'll continue to keep my hopes up and wait.

Again, good wishes with yours and please keep us apprised.

Yah, 8" is a bit big. 6" was the biggest I was willing to go too.

After 2 hours drip acclimating I put the fish in the 50g QT. It immediate hid behind the pump and stayed there for an hour. But it's now in a cave and comes out occasionally, even been picking at things. Discolouration gone for the most part but definitely still lingering.

Thought I'd hit post, but anyway, just fed New Life Spectrum pellets and it ate loads. I think we gonna be okay. :)

If you got the fish in your first post, shouldn't it at least look like that? Has it change color after it went to your QT?

Very active, coloured up a bit, it's a great fish. Haven't seen it munch on any LPS.

What did you feed him? Do you have any SPS, clams and zoas? If so, are they OK? Would love to see a picture of yours too. :)

I just feed him what I feed the tank which is a mix of mysis, flake and pellet. I don't have any SPS.

I did have a massive Squamosa clam but it died recently. I think the Quoyi harrassed it a bit. I was very sad to lose it because it was massive, over a foot long and I'd had it for 5-6 years.

Laurence

Sorry to hear about the squammy! I lost my 9" squam about two years back and still have not found a suitable replacement. Lost a 12" derasa just last summer too, but I picked up a 3" derasa that's growing like a weed! They get to be real fixtures in the reef at that size for sure.

Hope all is well with your family and friends. I know you are south of the major trouble and direct impact of the earthquake but it must be overwelming to everyone in Japan.

Quoyi's have a very ugly stress color... I have a 4 inch juvy and he is a model citizen, doesn't harras anything or anyone.
Doesn't pick at sps or lps or clams. It does eat coraline algae!

Beautiful fish, sTefaniA. :)

Bax, yea, hard times here in Japan but I'm lucky to be as far south as you can get in mainland Japan. Just hope the nuclear situation can be remedied before it gets any worse. :(

I've been on a fish break since about November. I added another 5 Lyretails after the Quoyi. I then lost the Squamosa and my Yellow Tang of 5 years one day disappeared and was never seen again (apart from a bit of white meat seen floating around a few weeks later). Might be a common fish but will always be one of my favourites and I'll get another soon.

Taxman did a right number on me a few months back and totally killed my buzz for many things but I'm sure I'll reclaim that passion at some point. :)

That's a great looking fish sTefaniA!

How long have you had it and what size tank is it in? What did you feed him? And where did you got him? :)

I've had it for three or four months now. He is in a 450g sps tank and eats everything including flakes and pellets. I got him at dabrowski aquaria, wich is in the netherlands:
