Anyone know what kind of creature this? Probably a sponge of some sort?
I noticed a few of them in my tank on the backs of rocks, and luckily, one of them was on a piece I could move to the front of my tank for closer observation.
They are always spherical in shape, grey/white tissue that appears fairly porous (this one has a layer of some sort of green/brown algae growing on it too... but the creature itself is the greyish stuff)...
and every three of four days, they produce a new set of "buds" that emerge on "tentacles," form into "spiky" spheres, and then break loose and float away in search of a home (you can see one that is close to leaving the nest in this pic, and some of the large white "debris" you see in the algae around the creature are actually buds that are still emerging).
Thoughts?
