Is it possible to ID acros or zoas? Call it whatever you like...FWIW it appears to be a branching widmeriscool :-)

I agree - looks like an ORA tri-color Valida... If you don't want it, I'll give it a home... :wavehand:

I dont know about the acro, but those tiny red spots look like a parasitic amphipod known as RED BUG. You better take a closer look at those spots. Does anyone else see that? Yeah you definitely got red bugs.

Definitely a tri-color. Most likely red bugs as well. those dang tri-colors are red bug magnets!

uh oh...please don't tell me that. ugh. well i got it from a very reputable dealer here in nyc so i'll hope for the best.

tri-color is correct as that is what they called it when i picked it up..just couldn' remember.

are you saying you see them on it now?

Branch on the right - look at the lower part and you can see two orange dots.

Are you getting very good polyp extension? I doubt it.

You can also see one at the bottom of the V branch base.

RED BUGS, been there, done that before. I followed the directions at Melev's about 6 months ago and have not seen another red bug since. It's an easy treatment to perform. And the out come is very rewarding. I have seen awesome polyp extension, coral coloration, and growth since I finished the treatment.

I can only get it from a vet? Wonder how tough that will be? Ugh..and to treat the whole tank I have to pull out the inverts...that'll be impossible. I only have that one SPS piece so maybe I'll let my Sixline get them?

I treated the whole system. You'll want to remove hermit crabs, emerald crabs, shrimp, and anything else that is a crab or shrimp before treating. I would keep them out while treating for the three week period.

go to the bottom of the page. It explains there on How to treat your entire reef with Interceptor.

If you only have one acro, then it is easier to pull it and treat that single piece. I recommend leaving it out of the main system for 5-10 days, closer to 10 being better. That will allow the cycle of red bugs to die off in your tank.

The key is to make sure you don't have any more acropora in the tank. If that piece is your one and only acropora, then no worries. Treat the single piece.

Sixline won't don anything for red bugs. Interceptor is the only tried and true method of eliminating them. Just tell the vet what you need it for. If he/she laughs at you, don't do business there. It took me six vets to find one willing to provide an off-prescription label of interceptor. Now they get my dog business, too.

I have a 3.5 gal nano with just live rock, a few mushroom and 1 little fish but it only has PC lighting. Can I put it in that and treat it? The only other SPS that I have is a Plating Monti.
