Ok, here I go on my first RK tread.

I collected this specimen three month ago, diving near home. It was placed very closed to the surface and the colony extended for several meters.
Well, I grabbed a small “finger” and placed middle high in my reef. The funny thing is that I’ve noticed that living inside the structure there were some sort of clams and I assumed that it was pretty much it. Some sort of mussel colony.
As time went by, I’ve notice that it started to beach. I taught that was the new lightning, but as soon I started to feed some cyclopeez at night it regained it color back and now I spends the whole day with their polyps extended.
It is a fun specimen, the mussel moves up and down time to time and some time you can see some sort of fan swapping the water.
If somebody could identify it….

Il looks a lot like millepora to me aka fire coral. If I remember correctly, it will ike fairly intense lighting (if you did collect it in shallow water) and moderate to strong wave action. They do well with regular feedings. just be careful, if it Is a Millepora, they can grow very quickly and have a pretty potent sting (which can get people too.. hence the common name).
A closer picture may help with a better id too

the "fan" sounds like a barnicle - filter feeding like a clam.
may or may not live.... depends

Barnacles. I used to have some in my old 55 tank. They did not last long for me. But I was not feeding cyclopeze either. I hope they last longer for you. Good luck!

to the original poster:

it may be hard to see with the other growth around the shells but a clam will only have two shell halves -- "Bi-Valve"

a barnicle will have multiple shell parts that almost look like a clams's shell when seen from one side.

if you watch you may see that when the "fan" opens the other sections of the shell move a bit.

clams do not have any "fan" to feed with.
