Hey guys give me ideas on a 40 breeder sps & clam tank.Filteration, lighting, and sps stocking?
Thanks

Im thinking DIY sump
175w 10,000k MH & 2X96w actinics

i think you might need 2 MH on that tank, people have 40B with 1 mh, but i think it would need two to look evenly spread.

filtration, a sump and return, and closed loop wit ha couple returns and maybe a seio 620 would work. with a skimmer that can handle 50 gallons

i have an 40 breeder with SPS and Clams...

the system is 6x39 watt T-5 tek fixture (I had a 2x250 aquamedic MH system but with 15" of depth it is definetely an overkill and the heat was a HUGE issue)

The sump is a 20 Long with an ASM g-2 rated for 150 gallons, quite one 4000 return (100 GPH), external overflow, Pan World 100PX-X Closed Loop (1300) GPH with an OM Super Squirt..I dont like the look of Big Seio's in such a small space..

1 small tang and a pygmy geometric hawk are the only fish and the live rock total = 40 lbs (very open rock work system)

i can keep any high light SPS (milles, torts, etc) in the tank and in fact their colors are much better under the T-5 than they were under too intense MH's...shallow tanks are perfect for T-5 uses!

good luck..

thanks guys ive never kept sps yet and im excited about building this tank. ALL i know about sps is they love flow, intense light, premium water quality, and food, the more info the better. These are the specs im thinking for the setup:

-175w 10,000k Mh and 2X96w actnics,or 250MH 14,000k,or t-5s(ive never had experience with t-5s i know colors look intense but i wanna capture a more natural effect, which i think MH give, the ripple effect seem like sun rays like when i go diving.if you can give me more info on t-5 fixtures and there pros for the 40b.

-DIY 20gl or 30g sump with AMS skimmer, carbon, heater, and bubble trap.
-40-50lbs premium fiji LR from my existanting 20gl
-oh ya 40gB
-black pine stand
-im thinking an external diy over flow box, but really i wanna build the best accomadation for these sps,so about 6-hi flow returns and a quiet one pump.
?s
What filtration and pump is suitable for this tank so it works as a hi-flo sps system?im thinking only about 4ft of head pressure.
waht is the ultimate light for this tank and species like montipora, digitata, mollipora, acropora, birdnest, and porites for optimal growth and captive breeding?

The truth is im very interested in these species. They are very beautiful, and colors and shapes are amazing. I have many corals in my other reefs like softies,LPS,zoos, gorgonians and shrooms but i think after keeping them for a long time with success and captive reproduction it is time to bring my hobby to another level, so here i am.With your help and advice this tank will send me into my sps journey.
Thanks
