Identify - Cone or Conch?

Are these a type of cone or conch? If so, can anyone identify species?

I purchased three at my LFS, pretty inexpensive. My LFS claimed they consumed diatoms. Any idea on husbandry requirements?

I can identify an eye stalk and a proboscis.

I'm no expert on the ID for gastropods.. but after researching what conches are avialible..

Be careful with your hands in the tank until someone like don gives a proper id.. I'm probably wrong.

Seriously keep you distance with cone snails they're EXTREMELY dangerous..

Hopefully they're just a species of conch I'm not familier with as cone snails are usually never collected.

Strombus (Conomurex) luhuanus, "Red-mouthed" or "Strawberry" conch in everybody's lexicon except reefers, and they make up their own names for them. They do graze across mucky areas, and will eat macroalgae as well. If it's any consolation, the scientists of the mid-1700's lumped them in with the cone shells because they looked similar.

Cheers,

Don

Thanks, With your id I was able to research husbandry requirements and found a wealth of information on Marine Habit, a UK magazine website. Seems like these were a really good large snail choice for my reef. I observed them eating hair algae on a problem rock, now they are grazing diatom mats growing on the sand between some of my rock work. They are interesting to watch, so all in all a good choice for an impulse buy.
Thx!

You're welcome. And if you startle them, they can jump :) (If you can't startle them enough, you can drop an Olive snail in there, and they'll all jump)
