If you could be a superhero....

Well Chernobyl happened 21 years ago so any superheros that came out of it would be of legal age now to declare to the world their powers but alas none have as of yet. So with this in mind, if you had super powers which hard-to-keep fish would you grant captivate-care good health? I would choose the mighty Moorish Idol. Such a beautiful fish I can't take my eyes of them when I see them swimming around, so graceful they are. So unfortunate they do not do well in captivity.

Without a doubt, the exquisite butterfly, Chaetodon austriacus:

I'd probably go for the Moorish Idol too. When I get a bigger tank I'm gonna try one. My LFS sometimes gets ones in eating mysis.

I've never tried butterfly fish. What is it that makes certain species of them difficult/impossible to keep? They just don't adapt to captivity? Don't ship well? Won't eat? Have specific diets that we can't provide for (like SPS polyps)?

My first thought was the exquisite butterfly as well. Beautiful fish.

And for what it's worth my mandarin eats anything I put in my tank. Except herbivore foods of course. From pellets to flake to mysis, it eats it all.

The one I posted, along with Chaetodon lunulatus, Chaetodon melapterus, Chaetodon trifasciatus all only eat mainly coral polyps. :(

some butterflys adapt well to captive life, others are iffy, and others (like SDguy showed us a pic of) only eat coral polyps and will not take anything else we can offer it.

i thought of a new fish I would like to be able to adapt to captive life: cuttlefish. damn have you seen those things? they change colors like crazy!

Actually there used to be a guy that was a member here on RC that bred, raised, and sold cuttlefish and octopusses (octopi or octopus??? or whatever the plural form is... :rolleye1: )online. He had a website called octopets.com. But he up and anounced he was done with the business and disappeared. It's a shame too... I was hoping to get a cuttlefish someday... I was researching them somethin' fierce... :reading: Oh well...

Anyway, I'd have to cast my vote for the butterfly fish... awesome color...

Wow looks like butterfly fish are a popular wish. Back in my retarded days I ordered an ornate butterfly fish for my tank with researching its need, but it died on the way here. So I'll have to vote for that fish.

That is a juvenile French Angel a beautiful fish both as an adult and juvenile

Honda2sk --- The LFS I used to work at sold cuttlefish. We were able to feed them with no problem. They were only about 4 inches long. Amazing creatures. Nobody bought them so we never got them in again.

We had one of these guys back in the day at the LFS. Kept it for six months by feeding it dying corals

Just about any Shark or Giant Octopus.

I just don't have the means or experience to even consider these majestic creatures.
