If you were me

Would you get the trigger emerald 20 cube sump, and shave .375 off your skimmer base, get the Bashsea cube, or the biotech cube?

Looking to get something during Black Friday. I know that's possible with the trigger systems, not sure about the others.

Here's the kicker. I have to drain part of my tank in order to move it off the wall and slide it into the back of the regrettable stand that I got with my 60 cube. That's not the kicker. Ready for it? Should I just go ahead and get the emerald trigger 39, and force myself to build a new stand? I eventually want to upgrade to a 120-220 so this is why this is an option.

Any insights on why Trigger Systems Ruby isn't the Emerald or Saphire? I mean the emerald color seems a little less desirable but along with the sapphire has more features. Just seems a bit odd to me. I know, I'm picky.

You asked, so here's what I would do if I were you:

Plan for the future. Build a stand that will suit you . DIY stands are really very simple to put together. They can also be as complicated as your skills will allow. Mine started as rough lumber from a local sawmill and is now a finished piece of furniture that matches the rest of the house.

I would never even think about a ready made sump - it is WAY too easy to make one yourself, the way you want it to be. It is also waaaaay cheaper. Take all that $$$ you would have wasted on that prebuilt sump and put it towards the new tank.

Hey billdogg-

Thanks for the insight.

I agree with most of what advice you've given, which is appreciated. I'm fairly handy and with the help of a buddy I would end up with a stand that is furniture quality and am thinking this is the way I may go.

The only thing I somewhat disagree with is the DIY sump. I don't doubt my abilities, although I've never worked with acrylic, nor has he. He's done some glass work and built some beautiful stands but what I'm going for as far as esthetics goes I think a pre-made sump outweighs the cost savings of DIY.

I guess my real issue is the instant gratification I want from getting a cube that would suit my needs now. The future tank is a reality, just not sure how far down the road. 12-24 months? Worse case I lose $100 for my instant gratification if I sell the cube sump.
