What is so difficult about sumps people? Lol
I have a Lagoon 50 but it's not wet yet so I guess I'm no help . I have replaced the stock return pump with a Current USA eFlux 1050 gal per hr DC model which fits nicely in the filter section. That's only a $162.00 upgrade and could be used in a Red Sea as well. The dims of this tank are really great, display area is 30x20x16. I'm looking forward to designing my scape this weekend. Build quality is great, the thing is a beast and looks great on the APS Stand. The stand will require some modification if you want to mount equipment don there, it's very roomy but there are no shelves or any kind of system to add them, you have to wing it. Hope this was at least somewhat helpful.

Not against sumps, just love simple tanks. Not to say that a sump is too difficult, but I was concerned with the 11 gallon sump of the red sea and any space issues I may have, as well as only a 2 gallon auto top off container. I did hear malfunctions of their float valve occur and occasionally flooding could happen.
If your ATO gets stuck on with an AIO, it'll overflow quicker since there's less volume back there.Just something that wouldnt happen in an AIO tank.
the top off on the red sea will not overflow the sump. I've been using the float valve on my Red Sea 170 for a year and haven't had any problems.

Seems like you've already made up your mind. To summarize what I've read
You like the simplicity of a AIO (no sump)
for the red sea you still have to buy a pump and skimmer
for the red sea you think the float valve will malfuction
for the red sea you think the top off reservoir will overflow the sump
