This is my first fish tank, Aquarium, mini ecosystem, or whatever you call it, that isnt a glass bowl on a table...

Here it is:
100 gallon corner glass Aquarium. Live sand. About 130 pounds of live rock and a free hermit crab who stowed away on one of the rocks I bought. Hahaha.
Berlin Sump with protein skimmer
Halide Lighting with Actinic Blue lights, and LED "moon" lighting.
Chiller and external heater

Here are some pictures...

That looks very nice, especially for a Noob :D
Did you set it up by yourself?

Nice Job!
Don't leave that electrical strip on the floor, mount it on a vertical surface preferably where salt-creep or water can't get to it.

What do you have for water movement in there? Just the overflow and return?

Yep, overflow and return. I just started the tank on Sunday, and Im still researching about everything. You sound like you may have a suggestion...??? Please share!
I was thinking about getting a "jet" thingy. Sorry I don't know my terms and brands yet. :p Its one of those rotating things to go on the end of the overflow.

Ok. Thanks for the heads up!

It sounds like you might need a couple of those jet thingies
(AKA powerheads :D) to improve the circulation in the tank. Just do a little research first before making a purchase because they are not all created equal. Also depending on what you expect to keep in the tank will determine how much circulation/flow you need in there.

o man get your walletit out LOL looking good and keep to RC and you will be on your way. .. What r u looking to keep in this tank? Sorry I had to edit b/c I drank to much Crown to night LOL

Yes, add a powerhead or two to that tank. There are many different types available depending on budget. Check out premium aquatics, marine depot, drs foster and smith etc.. for different types and then come back to RC and do some research on them.

Is that a giant dead coral decoration in the middle of the tank?

It looks as if ive already started to develop some "brown algae". Is this bad? How do I get rid of it?

Part of the natural cycle... diatom bloom.

So should I leave it, kill it, buy something to eat it, what?

It will go away on its own, dont stress on it yet. The tank will go thru several algae blooms then it should subside if your using Ro/Di water.

OK, thanks.
I just did a 5 gallon R/O water top off today. Next week ill probably do a 20% water change.

Is there anything I can put in the tank right now? Any kind of critters that don't worry about the water quality so much and can help keep it somewhat clean? I don't want to be impatient, I just want to do what I can to keep it clean...

I see your from the OC I just moved to NM from Irvine, you really should go see my friend Ali at http://www.amazingaquariumsandreef....ppened, you want zero ammonia & zero nitrite.
