I'm at a loss right now??

Buy a fully submersible filter? Aqueon has a line of them. Then nothing will be hanging on and you can have a complete canopy...

There has to be a reason fish are trying so hard to get out. I have had an open reef for years and not lost anything. High nitrates? Low PH? I'm concerned. What are your parameters?

Maybe that nothing is wrong but if it's continually happening? Tell me if I am wrong here? I tend to look outside the norm when things te
Repeat themselves?

I've checked my water two times at my LFS and they said it was fine. I'm waiting for my Red Sea marine test kit to come in and I'll tell you the exact parameters.

I agree timnem70. I think something is fishy about losing two fish to carpet surfing within 60 days of the tank's set up.

It's not weird
I had a watchman goby make the overflow his home for his first few weeks in the tank. I could not keep him in the dt no matter what, but was able to screen off the sump access so he didn't get chewed up in my pipes.

Where they live in nature I think it's a good defense to just jump into the next area of the lagoon when they get spooked. It's like a shallow rocky area with diff pools. Being in a new tank is hella spooky, especially if you're wild caught, but where you jump to isn't a nice new puddle, it's the rug (and my cat). Once mine settled in it was fine, I'm thinking your diamond is the same way.

I lost the goby 8/30/15 and got it 8/3/15. It was in the tank for 27 days, I assume it was settled in? The weird part was it would either hang out in its caves or would sit on the sand bed. I never saw it in the upper water column. I'm getting my reef octopus 1000 hang on the back skimmer on Monday. Once I have the skimmer up and running I'll build the egg crate plus screen backing then I'll get another one.

Well, I think I resolved my issue. If I have another escapee I must have Houdini fish.
