So why even bother having a club? why don't we just all join reef central and not even bother. I don't get it you guys are in teh club why not support your OWN website?
We have a club to organize frag swaps, bring in speakers, have DIY meetings, setup pizza parties, organize tank tours, meet one another, and get advice. We don't need anything more than our forum on RC for these things to work.
As far as I am concerned, the GIRS forum on RC is our own site. The fact that RC has rules and people to enforce them, just makes things easier on club members. Having neutral moderators, makes it so everyone is forced to get along. Can you imagine how crazy things would get if there were no neutral party to shut down threads that had gone south? If there were ever a major change to RC then I would definitely want to find a way to continue what we are doing on our clubs website's forum. For now I just feel it isn't necessary.
Beyond the traffic of local people, RC really improves the ability to sell stuff online. I know that lots of us have put things up for sale locally and had no takers. Then someone from outside of Iowa sees the post while searching RC and makes a purchase.
All that being said, if people want to use a separate forum, then they are free to do so. I want this club to be as good as possible, as I have gained a lot from it and I think others have as well. In my opinion, keeping things centralized is the right course of action given our club's size and traffic levels. Other people may disagree, and they can act accordingly.
