So why even bother having a club? why don't we just all join reef central and not even bother. I don't get it you guys are in teh club why not support your OWN website?

We have a club to organize frag swaps, bring in speakers, have DIY meetings, setup pizza parties, organize tank tours, meet one another, and get advice. We don't need anything more than our forum on RC for these things to work.

As far as I am concerned, the GIRS forum on RC is our own site. The fact that RC has rules and people to enforce them, just makes things easier on club members. Having neutral moderators, makes it so everyone is forced to get along. Can you imagine how crazy things would get if there were no neutral party to shut down threads that had gone south? If there were ever a major change to RC then I would definitely want to find a way to continue what we are doing on our clubs website's forum. For now I just feel it isn't necessary.

Beyond the traffic of local people, RC really improves the ability to sell stuff online. I know that lots of us have put things up for sale locally and had no takers. Then someone from outside of Iowa sees the post while searching RC and makes a purchase.

All that being said, if people want to use a separate forum, then they are free to do so. I want this club to be as good as possible, as I have gained a lot from it and I think others have as well. In my opinion, keeping things centralized is the right course of action given our club's size and traffic levels. Other people may disagree, and they can act accordingly.

Don't you think it's rather poor form to come to our house and request that people go play at yours?
Reef Central does not go to other hobby boards and request that their members come here.
Many clubs have their own sites, and a good number of those offer forums on those sites for their members. It just seems to me that this is not the way to go about letting your members know that they have a club specific site to go to.
You're welcome, from RC for providing your club with this **FREE** forum. Perhaps the way you use it should be looked at a little closer.

Very well said Brad, as there have been moderators needed. And this is a free site. Not to take a way from the hard work of those working on the clubs site. A third party looking in is not a bad thing to keep integrity a priority.

Sorry about that, i guess i might have just got a little too excited and didn't think through things before posting. I totally agree, I should have handled it differently.

And just so you know I really do appreciate the service RC has given to us and I hope they continue doing so for all of the clubs and societies out there.

so... this is way more dramatic than i thought it would be. i figured if people didnt want to do to the GIRS forum they would just not go... not actually take the time to post and say stuff they know will make other people mad.

also - i dont think its poor form to ask the clubs people to talk on OUR forum - we dont have a sticky on here to redirect people to the club site... so what are the people who want you to use the GIRS website supposed to do?

no one asked you to never come back, no one. many of the people on the girs site forum would be more than happy with you just copying and pasting the same thing you post here. would it be so hard to just check them both? there will be people on both forums no matter what and they probably wont have the same stuff...

so people exclusive to RC will not see some things the people on GIRS will and the people on GIRS wont see whats on RC - but the people who check both ( which right now seems to primarily be the people using GIRS) will see both.

now me... i hate having to scroll through pages trying to find stuff im looking for... on girs, its all organized and ready to go..

as the human torch would say....well, if you know. then you know what to do. (no, not really... that would be a waste of time)

woo! ( i am a nerd.)

And returned. I recommend you check your attitude at the door before you reply.

Please close this thread. This was a well intended request by waverz that has resulted in pointless drama by everyone involved, including the RC staff. IMO

Everyone use whatever forum you want!
