Im in complete shock

Sorry, Chuck. Is it that the GFCI tripping then shut off your pump or was some other vital piece of equipment shut off?

Wow, Chuck. Terribly sorry to see those skeletons.

So it was just a combination of everything that killed them? Cold, no light, no circulation, no skimming?

Do you have a game plan yet on how to avoid this? I have just realized my entire tank is on one GFCI!

Brandon

If possible, split your circulation and returns over a couple of circuits. I've got my house almost maxed out, but I've got it spread over 3 now. If one goes, I still have something moving. If they all go...

I was thinking along those lines, Gary. I think Jack has a good tutorial on making a dual GFCI .... uh... box I think. :)

Brandon

Wow! I'm so sorry about your loss. Need to switch my power to a couple of different circuits. I never thought about that. What a nightmare. I don't have any sizable anything to help. Good luck with the new tank.
Susan

I agree with Gflat; spread those functions over several circuits.
My 180 is running on 5, if one goes down others minimize the impact.
Dual GFCI; all GFCI's can handle a second socket attached to them (both sockets protected), but it is still one circuit, GFCI goes down, both sockets go down.
My tank:
2 main pumps coming from sump (each on separate circuit)
2 internal recirc pumps (each on separate circuit)
3 400 watt HID (each on separate circuit)
1/4 horse chiller (on it's own circuit)
Skimmer, and UV sterilizer on own circuit

Some items tied into one circuit, but if that circuit goes down, other circuits help the impact.

With the amount of time I am spending on the road anymore, it's the only way the wife is comfortable taking care of the tank. On more than one occasion it has saved the tank, and my marriage.

Gary:

Yea; I know, I observe (the page) but provide no input since I spend no real time at home anymore. My tank still exists, but I'm not sure I do.

I spend 2 day's a week at my "Real Job", then get sent to Denver to do a contract job that has no end.

Thanks for recognizing me, I'm not sure there are many of us "Old Timers" left anymore.

Just came home from a week in Denver to find more coraline algae on the front of the tank than the rear. No problem, scrape it off with the main pumps running.

WRONG, main drains plugged (somehow two giant snails got into the overflow outlets), and main tank flooded the floor!

Not a gigantic problem, turn off the main pumps, let the sump take the overflow; Wrong, the sump flooded too!

Somehow the programmed make-up water ran too long.

All problems now fixed, but I'm wondering how long "The Boss" will put up with problems like this. She likes the money, but has a problem with the tank responsibilities it involves.

God; I love my job!

Rick

I've got a friend locally that travels to Denver a lot as a surgical consultant. He's gone for a week or two at a time...

She's put up with tank problems this long, I think she'd feel a part was missing if she didn't have something (else) to get onto you about:D. I had a mishap Sunday with my SPS tank hitting 88.4... The temp probe slide out of the water, so it was reading ambient. No problems so far.
