I'm thinking about...

...doing a 4 Lx4 Wx24 D acrylic tank approx.

I'm trying to figure out really what I'd need besides the tank?

Stand (covered-family)

I would only be doing about a 50-75 gallon sump and a 30 gallon top off container

Right now I have 48" 6x54watt T5's and I would just get a 2nd set
Skimmer, Would just just a larger one rather than my 125 or a 2nd one but I'd hate to do 2 since I'm trying in cut back on the amount of plugs (I'm starting to look like christmas vacation )

All my water parameters are fine execpt my PH has been dipping down to 8 a couple times in the last few days (do I need to recalibrate my PH monitor? 1 month in tank)

I'm wondering about calcium? Right now, I'm running between 380-400...Would I need a reactor?

Can anyone else see what else I'd need that I'm not really thinking of?

I forgot to mention...With small kids, getting rid of any fish is hard to do so I'd like to keep if possible...However, the fish I WANT/WILL GET is a Clown Trigger

I have:

1- Regular Clown
1- Black Perc
1- Foxface
1- Blue Hippo Tang
1- Long Nosed Hawkfish
1- Neon Goby

Do I run any problems?

Are you replacing the 72gal and moving everything? The clown trigger is a pretty aggressive fish. I think your clowns and goby might be in trouble if you add a trigger.

It's really tough to gauge the equipment you'll need b/c we don't know much about your tank. If it will be fish only, you don't need a calcium reactor. I don't know how big/what kind of skimmer you are currently running, but selling the used one and upgrading is probably better than adding a second skimmer.

If you plan on a substrate, you'll need more of that, and you'll probably want more rock. I am guessing you'll also want to increase your flow and most likely will need a bigger return pump too.

I don't know what temps you run, but the big tank will take more watts to heat, so a bigger or additional heater(s) might go on the shopping list.

And then there is salt, addt'l filters for your RO/DI unit, and a bigger cleanup crew. :D

I would be replacing the 72... I was most worried about the fish.

It would be reef. I have a CSS 125 so I'd probably go with just a flat out nice skimmer...I use black sand and yeah, I'd need more. LR, I have about 110 and the way I want to set it up, I don't want to add much more (maybe 30-40 more)
Yeah, some used seios is no big deal and yeah, I guess I'd have to go to at least a mag 12, correct???

Right now in my house I have 3-300watt stealth heaters and some others I can use for SW and TO.

I have tons of Mortons

Yeah, the RO/DI is going to happen regardless just sooner...

The cleanup crew would do me nicely because I don't care for what I have even though there isn't a spot of algae in my tank...Too big, not stuff over.

So, I'm guessing you think I would need a calcium reactor? I guess I'll have to read up on them

I think you can wait a while on the Ca reactor, but you'll definitely need flow (new pumps) from day 1. You might even be able to wait on the addt'l heaters b/c it's summer.

That's the problem with upgrading - even though you already have one of everything, it's usually too small to run the new tank.

Are you going to sell the bow? Is this the one that was leaking?

Yeah, I know I need the flow...That's no a problem. I was just hoping I didn't overlook any thing BIG or something I haven't researched at all...This is down the road and the bow isn't leaking, It was just I guess too much hands in the water at the beginning I guess
