I'm upgrading my tank to a 65 gallon

Well, I bought a 65 gallon tank and I am planning on putting it in the wall where my 45 gallon now resides. The room behind the tank is minimal, so the extra depth of the tank(18 inches) will have to be built protruding out of the wall 6 inches. I also wanted to get rid of my siphon overflow, but a traditional reef ready tank was not feaseable due to the arrangement of the plumbing behind the tank, as you will see in the pic's. I thought I would share my progress, and update it as I go.

Here is a shot of the 45 gallon after I pulled off the trim

and here is the 65 gallon tank

I painted the back blue with krylon fusion and drilled a hole in the upper left corner with my dremmel for the overflow.

I have finished adding a refugium to my existing sump system, the main tank dumps into it, and it then dumps into the return section and skimmer section.

Here is the frame I added to the outside, and you can also see my diy halide/p.c. sliding pendant.

And here is my progress so far.

FUN WITH TOOLS!!!!!!!!!

Thanx for lookin'

Yeah its still running I havent installed the 65 yet. When it comes out I'll let ya know, my progress is slow.

looks great nice carpentry work. I like the look.
Judging from the view to the left looks like a great place to hang out.

Looks Great !!!! I like the shelves , excellent carpentry! Need a cup holder for the cocktails that you will be having!!!

Wow, thanks for all the kind words.
There is an 8 foot L shaped bar to the left that I built out of an old frame and panel door. It would be a good place for a future frag swap maybe? I'm centrally located half way between Rochester and Syracuse. Besides, i always like an excuse to drink socially. Maybe this summer if there is enough interest.
As for the finish, I am going to match it to the existing wainscott that surrounds the bottom half of the rest of the basement. It is minwax polyshades antique walnut. I'll probably top coat that with some spar urethane for some added protection.
I still have a lot of mouldings to apply, along with a crown moulding to cap the whole thing off. Maybe this weekend I will finish the woodwork.

Bye for now,

Finally, after what seemed like years, I finished all the carpentry, and decided to install the 65 on Sunday. Everything survived the switch, and I am pretty happy with the look.

Here are some pics...
