impeller sales a scam?

+1 on the maxi jet mod plus you get way more water movement
ohh and not to dwell on the subject but i bought an impeller for my mag 12 it was like 10 bucks shipped but it ran for years with a broken
shaft as was wearing out the volute case so i replaced them both now it back to pushing water.

Impellers for larger pumps are worse,
Laguna's will run you $40-60
The worse i've seen is a replacement for my ocean runner 6500, list price is $145 for an impeller most places sell them for $79.99, to me thats absurd, thats why I have pumps laying around, its almost not even worth replacing the impeller when you can find another one used for the same price.

it is from abuse (kalk/viscosity)

I thought there would be a lot more people ticked about the scam they have going on. Ticked so much that possibly a workaround had already been discussed. No one seems to care - I will drop it

It is hardly a scam. For one, you admit you broke it by abusing it to stir kalk and secondly, they do offer new impellers for sale for your 600 for $8.29:

I really fail to see where there is a scam involved or why you would be so "ticked".

Maxi jets are very good products, last forever if not abused (I have many over 8 ys. old) and they do have replacement parts available at a reasonable price.

I think you right it is a rip-off; having to pay half the price of the the pump for your small mistake.

PS. Lots of people toss their old impellers when they mod their Maxi-jets. I'll give you mine if your in San Diego.

Have you perhaps tried cleaning the pump in between uses??? That way the build up wouldn't get to the point of jamming the impeller until it breaks.

i would also go with the mod, its not a bad price for a lot more push

MJ flow mods won't help in this application... it's a kalk stirrer.

The purpose of this thread was not to modify my kalk system, nor was it to determine if your impeller never breaks versus mine that breaks from time to time. The purpose was to seek out an alternative replacement. I was looking for a DIY or a aftermarket impeller that is affordable.

If anyone knows how to make one, or knows where to get a beefier modified one, I would appreciate a tip.

Just an update. I have found the impellar in the maxi-jet 400 is smaller than the 600. It has less surface area, so it does not put as much pressure on the individual blades. I have been running for some time with no issues.

There is no "scam" here. You decided to use a pump that does not have replacement parts cheap enough for your standards, abuse the equipment, then go on a public forum saying they are crap. What the title of this thread should be is.. "I need a better way to dose kalkwasser"

FWIW the motor block is hardly anything but coils of wire in an epoxy filled plastic case. The impeller probably costs half of a new pump.

I go through a lot of these pumps as well on my PM Kalk reactor. I get around 4-6 months per pump so I live with it. How often do you have the pump come on? I stir my kalk twice per day for five minutes. One of these days I'll pony up the cash and buy myself a better kalk reactor.

I leave my pump running because if I don't the kalk settles and then the pump will not work. I'm going to need a pump that can perform better I suppose.

well, you really don't have many choices. MAXI JETS are well known to be the toughest powerhead around. if your killing the impellars that quick then reset your setup. I have one in my kalk mixer for 3 years now.
