Important Flood Prevention Reminder

I was reminded this morning when I turned off my pump to do my regular water change that it's a good idea to clean out the siphon break in the return line regularly. I realized this about the time I heard water crashing over the sides of the sump. There was a piece of bubble algae growing over the siphon break hole. So unless you want to listen to a giant box fan in the living room for the next 2-3 days while the carpet dries out, clean them regularly!

Floods are one reason I moved my sump to the basement. Not as much concern with wet concrete floors.

You might consider an alarm. I have Apex with leak detection and all pumps and skimmer shut down immediately when a leak is detected.

Controller would def help. I have a float switch in the display to kill the return pump if water ever gets too high (Drain failure). As well as a bulkhead high in the sump straight to the drain if that level ever gets too high (back siphon, ATO failure).
Cleaning up accidents is never fun lol

I like this idea! If I ever build the giant system in my basement I dream about I think I'll implement this.

Next flood will be my 5th. Luckily, it's a concrete basement floor.

But I still gotta grab every towel in the house, and run a fan for a couple days.
