Important Question Coral Life Digital Timers help?

That's why I posted this thread! THAT IS SOO SCARY! I remember hearing something about it on RC and seeing this poor guys tank melted and his house burnt. I didn't want to have any part of that what so ever. I did like the idea of having it control my moonlights, metal halides and actinics. I guess I'd really need all single timers for that though. Oh plus my refugium light. Thank you 2 crayzee. Bleh. Scary! That's all I gotta say. I live in an apartment so that's a HUGE no for me. Does anyone remember that post? If so, do you have the link? I'd like to show my Reef Club/All fish President. She'd be really interested. I say all fish because she does it all! I've never met someone more obsessed with fish than me. Finally I have. =) She just opened her store here. She's really nice too. She asked me if I'd want the coral life timers because I told her I need something to control 4 lights. She said well what about the digital Coralife? I said, girl haven't you heard about the fires with those on RC? I think Coralife should stop making them. Esp if everyone is taking all the precautionary steps to prevent salt creep, water spray, etc. Scary stuff. D4 how large are those? How many plugs do they take up? The one's I tried took up 2 plugs. Are there any that only take up one plug? =/

Intermatic has been making timers for years & years, we have used them to control outdoor lights at my business for over 20 years with no problem. I've also used the household versions for lamps, etc. I recently bought the Intermatic digital timer off ebay for use on my tank. It looks like the coralife timer, but all 4 timed outlets work with one timer - the coralife has 2 x 2 control.

I went with 2 of these heavy duty ones from intermatic, only cost me $20 each till i get my ACPRO III :D

have the sm time myself from menards. All those outdoor jobbies w cover end up "loosing time" eventually. This digi one is rock solid, had two outlets, 7programmable on + 7 offs and m-s options. well worth 20. changing all mine out. funny thing is... almost bought the corallife.

So the digital Intermatic controls 2 outlets per unit? So I'd need 2 of these? I need to control 4 lights all at seperate times. Let me know. Thank you. =) If anyone has the link to that coralife thread about the fire I'd really like to read it again. Thank you.

I bought some heavy duty digital outdoor timers made by Sylvania from Home Depot. They are very similar to the intermatic timers someone posted earlier.

They have 3 outlets on them, 2 timed and 1 not timed (15A). However, the timer controls them both together not separately. When I bought them I was hoping the timer would control the outlets independently, but that was too good to be true.

I am fairly sure it's the same for the Intermatic timers (2 outlets, but on the same timer).

So, you would still need 4. Someone else might want to chime in, since I don't actually own those particular timers.

I am in the process of setting up a reef tank this weekend (picking my tank/stand/sand etc. in the morning), I had purchased the CoralLife this past week and now I'm going to leave it in the box and retun it I will be going out and getting something else. I DO NOT want a fire. My house burned down when I was a kid and we lost just about everything. Thanks for the heads up.

I'd still like the link to that thread. Yes I don't want the apartment burning down either. It's very scary! I thought this would be a good thread. I was curious myself about the digital instead of the dual. I will not go with either now. I'm going with just 4 seperate timers. =/
